Little Brown Archie adds color to his cheeks
After a couple months of work and imagination running, the Brown Archie is coming to the finish line. Here are a few pictures of the outside and the inside cabinetry.
An experiment in just how small a space can be and still make one feel at home. This 7′x9′ house has a 63 square foot first floor with a tall loft and two great tiny porches.
The cabinets were salvaged and used whole with just some sandpaper to alter their look. The windows were being thrown away by an condo complex. This little prototype will lead the way to many more as they will make great short stay houses for in the villages and by the music event venues near the market areas. Imagine having this near or above your market booth in Salvagefaire as your place to go up to for lunch and spending the night on the weekend for an event, then having an income from the space during the week when you we back in the city. This size house depends on a village infrastructure to thrive for there lies the big kitchen and great cook or the projector screen and friends to watch movies or play games with before heading home for the night. These are great getaway sized houses and I believe most people would be amazed how big the Kidd feels like inside.
Now the Kidd is taking form inside with care to save some space, yet use all that we can to bring the things we need in case one wants to live here full time, not just visit now and then. yes its true it will have most of what you still need then.
Now some might think this is too small to live in thus you’ll find, the tax man will not count it as a place to live full time. For him it is a storage shed, for you it might be home, without taxes for your living space, you will be free to roam.
Its portable so if you choose to move on down the road, this house will travel with you as our others have now shown. Your cost to heat and cool will be a minor cost indeed, you’ll simply have to think about the food and clothes you need.
Imagine this and so much more, built out of mostly trash that others would have thrown away, but I add to my stash. Parts and pieces mixed and matched to make a house for you, means trees will live much longer and the parts will all be true.
So give this thought as you peruse the tiny house you see, for it is just a prototype of what your dream can be. Please join me in the renaissance that Salvage Building brings, to help to save the planet and to free up all these things. For they will cost us nothing and allow our planet rest with the chance to not be pillaged, to preserve the very best.
Lets think about the kids just born, the children who will need the salvage that we have still sitting, waiting to be freed.
This seedling that I call “The Kidd”, like others I have built, is meant to spur you into action once your mind awakes and fills, with images of what can be, besides what’s on TV, to break free from the Matrix, the illusion that you see, and thus you may find happiness that’s simpler and clean.
No, this is not finished, not for one more week at least. Still more to come, doors,
Finally, another Salvage Bootcamp, but perhaps the last if the turnout is not good.
I have listened to all the excuses in the past, not the right time, the weather too hot or cold, not enough notice to schedule, too much money to pay to come learn how to do it, and on and on.
Well, if you are one of those who really wants to learn how to do this, who is not going to whine about actually doing something like WORK for a couple days, maybe even sweat, and perhaps even have a few sore muscles that you have not used in ages, then you may be one of the lucky people who gets to participate in this adventure. I can have a few lookers who do not have the physical ability to do the work but want to learn how so as to orchestrate the young backs and those who will do your tear downs that you can easily find, but not more than a few. For the most part, anyone can do this work if they just set their minds to it and make the effort. Yes I know I am part of a generation that has let their bodies go to hell in a hand basket way ahead of schedule and this excuse of being old at 55 or 60 does not fly well with me as I am pushing 60 with a very short pencil myself now. Still, you can participate and better yourself in many ways every day and perhaps use your remaining time on Earth to learn and teach, lead, sponsor, and be a part of the Pure Salvage Living Renaissance. Help bring back the day when we tore down a house in order to build a newer better house rather than burn it down, bulldoze it, and throw away the irreplaceable parts that went into these houses thanks to the blood, sweat, and tears of the generation that built them, often without power tools and many time, older than any of you reading this.
Once upon a time there were no loans for houses that could be paid off in thirty years. People built what they could afford and saved every penny, not wasting it on a Latte, or disposable toys and crap imported and designed to break that now gets sold at the big box stores to all the suckers that will buy them. Come learn how they used to do it, to save the past to build the future with and thus house their children, stay warm in the cold winter, and though tiny by our modern standards, have plenty of room to raise a family that would stay as close later in life as they did while growing up.
A great picture of an ugly worn out old house. Tiny Texas Houses are built from houses like this and the parts are worth the effort it takes to pull them off, but the house is worth much more that we create from the parts. Come learn how to turn trash into a home.
Here is a series of shots from onsite at the Monty Grand Victorians home. It sits on the river near New Braunfels, Texas and is the sweetest house I have done for its style and flavor. What really makes this though is the incredible job that Gladys has done decorating it, and working with me to create a flavor filled color wonderland with dragonflies, butterflies, and colors all about. It is a fairy land for sure and one that should go into the Tiny House Hall of Fame. I hope you enjoy it. We will not be making many more to be shipped away from my home here at the territories, and this will always rank as one of my favorites.
A side shot as we were putting up the railings.
As with every year I wonder what the New Year brings along. I pray it will be wonderful with miracles for all. The gift of such a sight as this to me is proof of Love, the power to give life back to all I feel in forms that will live on. The seedlings that these houses are, impressed and rooting deep, will grow into a dream for us that we might still achieve. It does not matter where they started, these parts both old and new, brought back to life when all thought lost, to bring these thoughts to you.
The orbs and I enjoy a moment in the upper floor of “he Kidd” and show off the roominess of it even though it seems like it should not feel so big, it is indeed a great space for a single person or young couple to live comfortably if they are not into massive accumulation. This is indeed the smallest house we have made so far.
For the first time since we opened Tiny Texas Houses we are going to have a 2 week or 10 orders sale.
This Gallery of pictures is also followed by a way for you to have your Tiny Texas House earn you the cost of the land you will put it on after it buys it for you faster than your retirement savings will ever hope to do.
This event is intended to line up the houses to be built for the next year, perhaps the last of the series to be built to leave the Tiny Texas Territories.
Yes, it is true, as that few orders will book us up for the next year and still allow us to build a few tiny houses for the Tiny Texas Villages.
So we now see the Arched Brownie’s windows fully trimmed and set for colors. His porch awaits the posts that will define this face the most, but certainly each corner turned brings more cool sights to toast.
An offset view with shade and sun still lets you see this sight of a family of these windows who will watch the world at night. With the father of them watching from the other gable too, they’ll get to see a thousand eyes look on with love, in truth.
They’ll be admired near and far for what they represent, the chance to grow a house from what so many thought was spent. Please savor all the arches for they are the soothing way that this house talks to the passers by on every given day. Appreciated, watched, and loved, what more could one house want, but an owner who would care for him and be his friend for life.
The Front view still needs posts to set his facial lines to be something like no normal house that other people might have seen.
The glass in the arched windows is still the original hand blown wavy panes that were first put in a hundred years or more ago.
This is only 11′ x 18′ so it comes in at 198 sf for tax purposes and thus a portable building. This can get you around many codes and restrictions, especially if you do not hook it up for a toilet or shower, (that they know about). The same house with regular single pane rectangular windows would be $10,000 cheaper due to all of the extra work that arched windows require from start to finish.
So Here is the 2 Footed Sale Event
Imagine now that you could get 2′ more in length ….. for the same price.
Yes we are having a 2 feet more sale. In Tiny House numbers that is huge. In a house like this it adds over 10% more space to the inside of the house. During a short TTH two footed sale, we are going to prove how much of a difference two feet can make.
This is going to be a chance to get as much as 10% more house for the same money which means a bath or kitchen when you are talking tiny houses.
From a 12′x20′ to a 12′ x 22′ is the difference between having a nice Murphy Bed on a wall and still having a big living area or closets and a window seat at the far end of the living room.
Our bathrooms often do not use more than that much space, yes about 25 square feet and that will be added on to the house… for free if you wish to take advantage of a 2 week 2014 House Bookings Special.
This will give us a steady sequence to focus on and not be distracted by sales and showing people around as much as getting the design and build part flowing smoothly and perhaps getting some extra room out of that efficiency to fit in a third house per month to keep around here.
One could take this 10% discount in length and apply it to other features if they just had to have a house within a certain budget and did not want extra length, perhaps a back porch for the bonus instead. I plan to be flexible for two weeks in order to plan the new year with a group of new parents for my children of a Salvaged Imagination and Mind.
This is our way of making it easier to buy you or your family a treasure that will literally last a lifetime and open the door to downsizing, planning a new path, and turning retirement funds that go down in value now into appreciating and if you like, performing assets.
The Income Opportunity Perspective that buys the land for later on.
If you are not ready to buy the land and set up but want to get the house and make money on it soon after it is finished, then you could place your house on the Texas Territories and allow it to be used for sampling by people who want to try one out by staying the night. Thus you could be making a 9% return on your investment and even come stay in it now and then until you are ready to get the land and have the responsibilities that come with it.
So its not just a Tiny Texas House, it could be an income generator for you as well as your escape if you need one. All set up and humming for a weekend run away, providing it is not booked out to make your extra income. Might just call and book it for your self for free ahead of time.
Yes, it is true, you can make 9% annual return paid to you each year and thus buy the land with the income your Tiny Texas House can make while waiting for you to retire. Better still, there would be no penalty for taking the money out of retirement funds as it would be a second house with that exemption. Imagine making 9% a year on your retirement account as most are not. Plus it is an appreciating portable asset that you could sell if you wanted and still have the income made, and likely make a profit on the house too. What makes the house so valuable is that if someone stays in it and has to have it, you can let it go and they can move it to their ranch or new homestead.
This is part of my vision for the villages. You could own a Tiny Texas House and come for you vacations which would put you near Austin, San Antonio, and within and hour of the Gulf Coast or a bit more to Houston if you want the big city. The houses would be grouped into 1 acre villages with a common larger house for the big kitchens in the middle. Most of the smaller houses make great master suites and do not command a big kitchen so they work great in such a surrounding. We will take care of booking it out to Pure Salvage Living member who will take good care of it during their opportunity to sleep in an Organic Tiny House.
Nearby will be a number of activities as time goes by, including a market, music events at the amphitheater, and other villages with organic foods for trade, perhaps some artisans who work the market nearby, and hopefully a Holistic Health village with a healthy restaurant on front of the market. The arrangement would give people a low cost for the space and maintenance where the house would sit and all overhead would be deferred by the income above what you would be making from your house.
For the others who have a place to take their house, this is a golden opportunity to get your house for a good bit less and know you will have one before we transition in to exclusively building for the people who buy to put them in the villages. I hope you will take us up on the offer of being one of the last to get a Tiny Texas House for 2014 as we will stop taking orders if we reach 10 houses and wait until we work our way down in the spring or summer before repricing and taking any more orders for off site sales and deliveries. (if we do again)
Thank you for thinking of Tiny Texas Houses and the Pure Salvage Living Renaissance.
Please give some thought to converting some of your savings in the paper money world into a Tiny Texas Performing and Appreciating Portable Asset that will last for decades and decades paying itself back over and again, to still be sold one day if you so choose as well. Beats wrapping CD’s around you to stay warm on a cold night if the savings accounts ever freeze up. This is truly and investment you can help you live a healthier life and possibly even enjoy it more while you are here.

Here is a story of a Salvage Bootcamp and the salvation of a bit of history that will carry on to also become a piece of history one day.
Miss Lilly is made from the parts of several houses that once resided on the ranch owned by the family she has gone back to live with now. She is named after the matriarch who lived in the house we tore down more than a century ago and helped do all things back in a time where women worked as hard as the men to take care of the house, the animals, and the ranch. The women of Texas were a strong breed, many of German decent and a determination rarely seen today. Miss Lilly carries that message with her, along with the simplicity and strength that was shared by so many people when they settle Texas in the 1800′s.
From these parts did we construct the house that you now see. She is a beauty different from the one that used to be. But in that house was laid the seeds that grew up strong and proud, the family that thought that was heaven when it was first found. They raised a family that has grown and now returns to be the stewards of the land again, and the new dreams that they breed.
So here is how it happened, how she came to be again, a home where love will grow and where the dreams will surely roam. Her spirit carries forth within, some memories will rise, and show up in the dreams that all will share who come to sleep inside.
The bottom beams with their overlapped joints that are also lag bolted and glued. The cross beams in the middle are held on by Steel saddles that are bolted to the beams and assure that they won’t slip away while keeping the outer beams strong.
This is the short story of the Tiny Texas House we call Miss Lilly. I hope you have enjoyed watching her manifest into a Calendar Girl. She is the February Calendar Girl in the 2014 Tiny Texas Houses Art House Collection now available in our Online shopping store. Please consider getting a few for Christmas gifts or just for regular gifts for those you know who are dreaming of downsizing in the years to come. This is all about helping share a vision of what we can do with what we have to be thankful for already. It is a short perspective on how we can solve many problems using this simple perspective change and setting about tapping the treasures that are in our midst nearly free for the taking.
I would love to see them using salvaged American made toxin free lumber, windows, doors, sinks, hardware, and more that gives more opportunity to them as well as fuel and jobs that will get them into a hands on empowerment cycle of home ownership. This means putting in Human Energy by working on salvaging houses to help get materials virtually for free. Then learning how to clean them up, rebuild them, and create new housing from the parts and pieces that are the treasures left to us by our ancestors and not trash.
Our heritage lies in our history and to throw away the best of the past is foolishness when it can fuel the transition of a nation of the helpless and homeless into the thriving salvage business where manifesting homes from the treasure loads of old houses, barns, buildings, and warehouses.
This I offer up and hope at some point the new website and offerings we can put out to teach this across the web will enable many others to fuel their efforts with the gifts that lie at our fingertips, waiting to be gently saved and reused to build something our grandchildren will be proud of and steward. Respect for the life long efforts of craftsman to create such wonders as others will marvel at a hundred years away is a tradition we can bring back to life again. It means involving everyone in the effort and some one of nearly any sort can have a place in a far reaching solutions generated by the ideology behind a Pure Salvage Living Renaissance.
The meaning of this to those who can no longer go to banks for house loans, can now go to houses and get the parts, barter for work, and help form their own unique homes, perhaps even portable as my designs allow. This then enables one to take their home with them if they need to move into another village later, or leave it to someone who may want to take it somewhere else to live in thereafter.
Okay, I have been delayed on getting the Calendars printed but still ahead of Christmas far enough to get them out with time to resend them still.
I hope you like the newer versions better. I will add a few interior pages later to show the different layout and what appears to be like more space some how.
