Thanksgiving Weekend Westoff Salvage Bootcamp 2012

Flash Announcement for limited sign up!

“Westoff Texas Salvage Bootcamp” and weekend seminar

Arrival on Friday afternoon through evening with tour time at 4:45 at the Luling TTH facility, evening seminar, and planning session. 1212 Ih10, Luling, Texas also known as exit 628 on IH10, the south side service road going East is my driveway for the last half mile after the entry ramp for Houston on IH10. (Don’t get on that ramp unless you want to go to Buccees 4 miles up the road and turn around).

Options for Housing or camping for sleep-over on site, in Gonzales, and Luling, Texas.

Limited menu food options provided and a full kitchen to cook at in Gonzales as well as some preparation space in Luling will allow for gatherings, eating together, and commiserating over the sore muscles, pains, and great fun everyone will have on the outing to a great ranch in the middle of nowhere called Westoff, Texas. The Guadalupe river runs along the property and you will have the chance to go see, touch, taste, swim in, fish in, and wade in if you please…… brrrrr. but you will need to assume all liability for yourself, as always, for that and all things that happen while you are on one of our projects.

Pricing will vary depending on the accommodations and food, but the intent is to simply cover some of the administrative costs of running this and hopefully getting some of it filmed in order to teach others how to do it too.

Over night stay at the Wallace St. Pure Living Retreat which will be in minimal roughing it conditions like inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags or brought along comforters and feather blankets. We have one shower but two baths, one is under reconstruction and could be night time seminar to get it done if enough people are interested. It would be just like the ones we put in the Tiny Texas Houses, likely Granite.

Time for project could be through Monday depending on how many people show up but not all are required to be there the whole time. Certification Credits for Experience Training on this style of single wall construction farmhouse will be given to all who participate in getting it to the ground on Saturday and Sunday. Monday will likely be outbuildings where the participants could get some of the materials as a bonus.

Pricing for participation $25 per day is for the seminar and $25 per day for the limited luxury but spacious, with kitchen, gathering, and bath accommodations (roughing it but indoors). Some Camping spots for tents will be available at the Wallace St. Retreat in Gonzales at $5 charge per night to help defray utility/overhead costs and clean up at the house as well as for some basic comforts that will come with being able to be inside for meals and comrade before crashing for the night. RV’s could stay in Gonzales, Luling, or out on the Ranch in Westoff next to the house so as to report on if there are any Ghosts checking things out at night while we are home. LOL.

Camping and RV’s can also be out at the Tiny Texas Territories with 40 acres to choose from and a big shower/bath to share, possibly a nice bonfire and some music at night along with some interior space on the floor for air mattresses and sleeping bags if we need to have more protection from the weather. This will be available in the building that is now the SalvageFaire headquarters where we will soon be building the audio and video recording studios along with the stages for live performances that can be recorded from the same studio control room.

Presently our RV spaces will have somewhat limited amperage but for sure basic power, a water supply but not necessarily access to a blackwater waste connection except for a dump station. Services available will depend on the number of people who come and need them. 6 or more possible. $15-$20 per night depending on utilities and temperature so as to figure cost to heat and access to proper amperage.

Camping spaces may also be available at the nearby RV parks in Luling and at Ottine’s Palmetto Park.

Total cost for stay will also hinge on participation in shared or payed for meals. Great breakfast tacos are available from nearby restaurants in both towns and a kitchen in both places for really early risers to prep coffee, cook breakfast like scrambled eggs, potatoes, and toast. Lunches will be out on the site and will be $10 each if we have it catered in, most likely a macrobiotic dish of a delicious and memorable sort. Other options are invited including carnivores who wish to barbeque or cook other group dishes that will alleviate any cost if everyone throws in and helps clean it up afterwards.

Seminars in the form of short presentations on various subjects are part of what the $25 per day covers, along with the chance to learn, get certified to be considered for future Bootcamps that will pay bonuses in the form of parts and pieces to star participants and those who go the extra mile for some bartered pay.

Friday through Monday will be $100 for participation in the Salvage Bootcamp
Daily accommodations as needed as per various options available and changeable if weather dictates.

What to bring:

Hard soled shoes, gloves, safety goggles, ear plugs or head gear to protect ears, face masks or respirators if you have allergies or immune system sensitivity. Long pants, preferably jeans or several layers of controlled garb below the waist line so as not to have it get snagged and cause harm to people, building materials, or clothes. I recommend long sleeve shirts and jackets that will not snag easily and rip as there are plenty of snags to grab you on a salvage job. Don’t come wearing anything you value as tearing pants and shirts is commonplace on the jobs.

What is the SalvageFaire Market?

It’s a Pure Salvage Living Renaissance Year-Round Market for Members Only!

On our 42 acres in Luling, Texas, at the junction of I-80 and Interstate 10, we’re building the ultimate Vintage & Antiques Market, Farmer’s Market, Community Retreat and Eco-Building Learning Center all in one! Everything Recycled, Upcycled, Re-used, Re-Imagined, Handmade, Handcrafted, and Made in America! It will be a place to see, learn how, and become a part of a renaissance in Self Sufficiency, Life Skills, and a simpler more fulfilling lifestyle.

The SalvageFaire market will be nestled amongst our Tiny Texas Territories – acreage where folks will have the opportunity to rent, lease or own one of our Tiny Texas Houses in a true community setting. As in the markets of yore,SalvageFaire plays a crucial role in our community – offering folks a place to sell, barter or trade all manner of homemade, handcrafted and vintage goods, heirloom produce and animals, and organic foodstuffs – selected by us to be of good quality and not imported plastic junk or GMO laden franken-foods.

Think of it as the Renaissance Faire for today’s eco-friendly Artisans, holistic care givers for massage, acupuncture, and herbal oriented lifestyles, Craftspersons and Vintage Antique & Salvage Vendors. This space will allow us to create a central Entertainment area, plenty of parking, full bathhouse facilities, overnight and short-term RV rental & Overnight Camping spaces and more will be available. It’s a grand vision, and with your help, we’ll make it a reality in 2013!

We are opening the door for charter members of this first SalvageFaire to get long term lease options and cut their costs by participating in building their own creative and unique booths that will catch the eye of millions going down Interstate 10. The first vendors will have the choice spots along the parking lots and with the best frontage, traffic, and visibility. This is a rare opportunity with 18,000,000 people living within a two hour drive in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. It is facing Interstate highway 10 and should generate many followers for decades to come.

Now is the chance to buy into a space, invest your energy to build with the biggest selection of cool salvaged materials anywhere, supplied by me for each site, plans must meet approval of course, and Eclectic is King. I have all the parts and pieces, thousands of square feet of tin for roofs over vending areas, lumber, ceramic tile, windows, and resources to supply those who want to be part of this with the means to make it happen. Let’s make the most incredible market in the USA, for the USA, so that we can prove it works and that it can be done over and again across this vast and incredible country.

This drawing shows SalvageFaire in the middle, Tiny Texas Houses at the top left which also houses the Pure Salvage Outpost, our giant retail outlet for all the things we use to build Tiny Texas Houses and much more that is too big to use on Tiny Houses.

We will be having a Grand Opening of that building as a retail store in October of 2012.

Salvage Faire on the Horizon

Googlemap 20501 East IH 10, Luling, Texas and on the south side of the highway, within 45 minutes to Austin and San Antonio, an hour and a half to Houston or less to the coast. We have city water, city sewer available and tapped. We have a well we can purify for water too, along with rainwater, but we need more capture systems for our massive roof line on the main facility. You can nearly see the outline of the 48 acres just by the fence lines.

SalvageFaire has a building in place with electric and water, a septic in addition to the city sewer, a giant parking lot ready, materials to build the covered market spaces below and a tiny house above to stay in on weekends. We plan to host events, whether music, festivals, weddings, or other events that various villages will sponsor once we get rolling.

Finally, after 30 years of preparation, a vision is about to materialize. 100,000 square feet of inventory, doors, windows, flooring, sidings, trim, tile for roofs at the market and the pavilions, beams of all kinds, tin to cover 150 houses, and hundreds of feet of market spaces with the trusses to do much of it as well.

Now, after decades of hoping others would want to join in, here is the chance to find out that “if you get all the parts, the place, the proof it is possible, and the time is right for people to finally give up the ways that have not worked and create a new world out of the best of the past, and the spiritually aware use of modern technology for good, not war, riches, and creating unhappiness throughout humanity.

Here is the chance to be part of the proof it is possible but it means being able to commit, be reasonably sane, positive, ready to make new friends and create the foundations for a global community founded at a local level. This must be done by the masses, by people willing to make the sacrifices and do the work it will take to turn this into a national renaissance in self sufficiency.

These are intended to be started by mentors who realize it is not what we have but what we do with what we have in the end. Our generation, after causing so much harm, has the chance to unite people again to save the world by doing the obvious, saving the gifts that we have all around us to rebuild with rather than be dependent on imports. It means preserving the wisdom and knowledge of our elders before it is lost while also respecting the hard work and incredible hardware, parts, and pieces that our forefathers created for us to use.

This is about the freedoms of choice, to be educated without government intervention, free to live a spiritual life of our choosing, live with a tiny footprint, drop out of the matrix, live a relatively toxin free life, organic if we choose, and spend time with those we love. The reality must once again include the treasures we have left, the knowledge to appreciate them, and the understanding that the world can not produce it all again, so what we have is what we will leave behind to when we are gone.

Only a few houses are in place, but the materials, space to build more, spaces to put them when they are done, and the means to ultimately fuel this and others like it down the road by having the Pure Salvage Outposts and SalvageFaire Markets, the Tiny Texas Territories and other Pure Salvage Territories in other states joining together to form a web that will move information, materials, plans, people for villages where they are needed for their talents, and much more.

The membership will give us the ability to dispatch salvage projects all over with people who have been taught, certified, and empowered to go out and change the world, one house, one building, or one barn at a time so as to create millions of Tiny Houses that will last for centuries in sensible villages once more.
