It’s true, 3 years of putting it out there that we could create villages for Tiny Houses, not one credible person has come forward to be part of them. Those few that suggested they might were not able, serious, or of the caliber that I would want to live around them due to drug consumption, alcohol, anti-depressant addictions, and people simply seeking a place where someone else would take care of them for the rest of their life without contributing anything to the community. I was disappointed that we did not even get inquiries from people actually capable of moving here without getting paid to do it, given a job though they had no skills, or had no means to pay anything toward building a house once they got here, not to mention not having skills to contribute either. If one would have been participating in helping make it happen with their time and skills, there was not even going to be a cost for space under the house, electric, or water. Still, that was not enough. No one will ever offer more, including the parts to be bartered for building their houses if they would work on other houses, be trained, even if only to paint, or do cosmetics. NOT easy enough still.
This is just a clarification to quell what few inquiries we were getting still, mostly from people with no funds and looking for a way to escape their unhappy situations but having no means to do so. While I plan to have houses available for overnight visits, none will be there for people to live in full time as that clearly is not a path that has proven worthwhile thus far. I do wish anyone else out there attempting to create Tiny House villages that people can afford to move into the best of luck. I have not heard of any great success stories yet, except the small house development that costs $500,000 to get a house in, and it is made the modern toxic box way, so I do not count it toward the goal of creating toxin free salvage based housing for the people. Those who wish to live in houses made that way are just SOL from all I can tell.
So, to keep this brief…. The plan is not continuing and I will quite talking about that part of the vision. I will still be working to get the market up for all things salvaged, organic, American made, and that follow the Pure Salvage Living Renaissance ethos. It will have a concert venue, small restaurant (nearly done), recording studio (nearly done), and hope that it will give credence to the viability of this concept, but for that to happen in the end, people will need to come to it. We will see if that is even possible, and if so, hope for the success to inspire others.
So far, I certainly would not be one of the advocates telling others to invest in the possibility of people, corporations, or the government coming to help, to participate in getting it going, or to have the bucks to come with house, money for a house to be built, or even an RV to stay in while it is happening.
One of the reasons I am offering up the chance to start other Pure Salvage Outpost Co-ops is that I would like to see the concept of toxin free tiny houses continue to grow and I will not need the inventory I collected that would have built a hundred houses for the villages anymore. Thus the sales, the divestment of the 100,000 sf of inventory and eventually the facilities in Gonzales where much of it is stored. No need anymore. Please feel free to come buy the materials you may need for your tiny house, small house, or larger home that you would like to create free of the formaldehyde, plasticizers, sheetrock, carpet, and other crap that now makes houses unhealthy to live in when they are new, up until about 4 years old. I do still believe strongly in giving the families this option if they want it, but most will trade out quality for quantity in the housing world, even though it is the kids that will pay the biggest price in the end. If the parents think they are doing their kids a favor moving into those big new houses, they need only research a little bit on the internet to learn more, and hopefully change their tact. So far, the majority don’t even stop to look at the facts and take the real estate brokers, builders, and others who have a vested interest that makes them money if you decide to move into what they are shoving on the public without full disclosure. Most of them are intentionally staying ignorant about these things so they will not be obligated, if they have a conscience, to tell the young couples with kids, or the elderly who’s health is at risk as they experience the most stressful move of their lives when they leave the home they have lived in and loved for decades.
That said, and likely having upset a good number of people, I do not expect this to get much attention, but it is done and I did want to be sure I made it clear. For those that also wished this could come to fruition and have offered their support over the years, I give you my deepest gratitude and thanks. May you find someone who can pull it off and create the towns, villages, or subdivisions for healthy tiny living so that the many who will need it, want it now, and if financing is ever made available, may still have a chance at this dream. I have spent millions of dollars trying to make it happen and no longer believe it is possible, at least not in Texas.
So I will continue to savor life from my Tiny Texas House at the back of the property and focus now on getting some books written for those that may want to follow the toxin free tiny house living path that I have found so incredible in my life. I have never been healthier and happier for having lived in a house, though I have owned one over 4,000 square feet with a giant yard. Tis the simplest of homes built from 95% Pure Salvage materials that has made me the happiest.
