We Can Learn How To Do Kitchen Back Splashes In Antique Metal As Part Of The Kitchen Finish Out On The Retreat. For Example.

April & May Intern and Seminar opportunities.

This is your chance to learn about how to:…

Create a bathroom that maximizes spaces with 1″ thick tongue and groove walls or doors. It is not hard to do if you have the right materials and get to help on one or two.
From the shower walls to the floors,
windows & doors, repairing, framing, installing into a house, each of the pieces that make up the great Tiny Texas Houses. Baths of the past are relatively easy to create yourself if you want to your future to be manifested with a little bit of salvage. You can do your part to save the planet and benefit as well.

This will be part of one of the seminars for the next two months, much of the focus depending on the interest of those who sign up/ show up as we have several different projects we can focus on along with the baths.

Designing kitchens, creating cabinets from salvage cabinets and drawers, sinks, and even the faucets that can be salvaged and used again in most cases.
Wood countertops, granite, concrete, tile, or slate, you can create options that will amaze those who see them later.

The salvaged possibilities will amaze you and the simplicity of using parts from the past is not only economical, but saves energy, resources, and respects the work of the ancestors who created it.

Trimming out the interior of an Organic Cottage, April 15-17th, 2016
Both windows and doors will be the subject of a single two day seminar that Includes the installation of wheels for sash cord weights, including how to tie the knots and set the weights, then put the trim on the interior. The weather stripping for doors and windows is different and if we have the time, We will put a door together from hinges to hardware, even the jamb if the group is able, and include how to weatherstrip them. There are several styles of windows, from double hung to casements, tilt ins, single hung, and even sliders, so only two types will be done for a seminar unless time permits more.

Then we also may include:
trimming the top, sides and bottoms of doors and windows, including some flashing options using salvaged material.
Weatherstripping the sides of vintage windows so as to make them more energy efficient (without sacrificing some of the valuable air flow we want around the windows as well).

If we get a group that wants to focus on a particular subject we can concentrate on a realm of interests to include Learning how to:
Install beaded wood for a wainscot for example,

Install siding,

The Gypsy Wagon style house gives the most space up in the loft for the bedroom, sitting area, and study, leaving space below for kitchen, bath, and living area. It also has two porches on it. Here you can see how Clapboard siding goes up.

install roofing metal which we use a lot of as it can be both walls and roof material, even ceilings.

View from the back side of the house shows the rich color of the metal siding and the Long Leaf Pine clap board that has yet to be oiled but will be darker when it is, as will the metal siding too.

If we get a big enough group, we can cover many parts of the building with salvage process and get some hands on experience for any who want to have it as well. Hopefully we will get the support we are looking for to host two weekend seminars and two week long seminars over the next two months. They will be for the general public who can become Puresalvageliving.com members and join us affordably in order to participate. The cost for the weekend and weekday seminars will not include food or lodging at the basic level. Classes start about 10am and run through 6 pm or later.

We offer Camping spaces with a bath house for showers and prep, RV spaces but not with full hookups, though a dump station will be on the property for emptying grey water tanks with fresh water available. Limited electric available for RVs.

We also have Tiny Texas Houses on site that you can stay in while here for your salvage building or salvage mining experience. You can see more about that opportunity on the AirBnB site.

To Please feel free to check with us if you are interested in participating. Contact us through Darby@Puresalvageliving.com

Tours with lecture may be part of the seminar so as to see all the house on site for ideas and learning of what not to do as well as what works.

Cost for the seminars will be $150 each person with some space for working volunteers and interns.
