The Loopholer Building Workshop
June 9, 2017 @ 9:00 am - June 11, 2017 @ 5:00 pm
$225.00
Join us at Salvage Texas (formerly Tiny Texas Houses) for a three day tiny house building intensive on June 9th – 11th, 2017.
For this hands on workshop, we will be building what we call the “Loopholer” cottage, a tiny house livable space cleverly disguised as a backyard storage shed/gazebo/camp house.
The idea for the Loopholer arose from the frustration of dealing with HOA and building code in the United States. Tiny House enthusiasts are still confronting the challenges of putting a tiny home on their property…so we’ve designed a structure that can be cleverly disguised as a simple storage shed that can be placed in your backyard but still provide the amenities of a full time living space. The Loopholer cottage takes advantage of some of the loops holes that currently exist in building code and cleverly “work around them.”
Brad “Darby” Kittel wrote a blog explaining his reasoning behind the creation of the Loopholer, which you can read here.
For this workshop we will be using salvaged building materials to build out this modular tiny house. We will move through each stage of building the Loopholer as a team.
Students will learn how to design & construct:
- Flooring & joist system
- Structural Framing
- Roofing & Truss Systems
- Salvaged Window and Door installation
- Interior and exterior skins
- Trim and finish out
