The straps are on, the trailer connected to the truck, which started with some sweet talking and caressing, plus starter fluid. I am driving and hoping for an event free, drama free run to the back of the property where Tantra Village is located. Seems like a short distance from the front end if all goes well.
I didn’t want to take a chance on this bump being too high.
Things were looking pretty good though the truck was idling fast and stalled soon after.
So we stalled at the bridge as I tried to back up and reposition as there was only about 4″ to spare on each side of the tires. Luckily the bridge was solid and waited for us to get it started again.
Finally we got over the bridge after several restarts. But she kept trying to die again. I was getting frustrated to say the least.
We were nearly half way up the hill and I thought I would pop a wheely with the way I had to work the clutch.
We also had to dig away one side where the dirt mounds were too tight for the trailer to pass through and that stalled us out again. This was the time we caught fire for the second time and managed to put it out again.
A hundred yards to go, but the truck was being a bugger. This time the fire did not go out so easy and we had two t-shirts, some scorched Rene Beard, and finally a fire extinguisher to put it out. We did not try to start it again.
Soon after that the motor caught on fire, and the air filter burned up as we scrambled to put out the gas fire on the top, we resorted to bringing in the chains. I had finally remembered and grabbed the fire extinguisher from Barth, the 1974 motorhome I had been living in while waiting for Tantra, and it was out, but we decided not to take another chance. Here comes the calvary, a chain and the rented backhoe.
- The chains nearly pulled the bumper off but we were making progress. We repositioned the chains, and played the back and forth game. After several adjustments we were nearly to our destination.
- Almost there and then trees again were sticking out endangering my stained glass windows.
Backing up was not an option at that point, so trees got thinner fast.
Busted several welds on the way and we were looking at the compression on the back porch but overall, we did good.
That was an hour and a half, or two of one thing after another, but we made it without dumping Temple Tantra on her side.
This is a dream come true, almost, for we still have to crane her into a final spot I have picked out.
She may still be on training wheels, but she is in Tantra Village where I could just lift her up and set piers under her after we withdraw the trailer if I had to.
This has been a long drawn out affair for those who have followed from the start last January or so. Can you believe we are almost done? I thought I would get to sleep in her that night. It did not happen as I got out to late to want to fuss with moving my cotton mattress in the rain. Stay tuned to see what did happen the next day though.
